Worship Ministry

King of Glory Lutheran Church
Worship Ministry

Normally, the people of God at King of Glory gather for worship on Sunday mornings at 8:00 and 10:30 a.m.

  • On the first Sunday of each month we have a Senior Chapel Service at 1 p.m.
  • Once or twice a year we have “All-Congregation” worship services (usually in June and sometimes in December) to gather the whole King of Glory family as one.
  • Special worship services are held at Christmas, during the Season of Lent, and at other times throughout the church year.

To make worship happen, there are a number of volunteer ministry roles:

Sunday Morning Hosts/Hostesses are split into an early and late shift to oversee our Sunday life by making sure doors get opened and locked, coffee and other things are set out and cleaned up, just as a host or hostess would when hosting a gathering at home.

Greeters welcome worshippers to Sunday morning worship at the 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services.

Ushers are needed for all Sunday and special occasion services to provide hospitality and to perform a number of functions in support of our worship life.

Lectors assist in Sunday worship by reading the appointed lesson or lessons for each Sunday. Classes on being an effective lector are offered periodically.

Worship Assistants serve in Sunday worship by chanting liturgy and/or assisting with communion.

Acolytes are usually children and youth from grades 4 – 8 who assist in worship by lighting and extinguishing candles, carrying the processional cross and performing other duties. This ministry is also open to older youth and adults.

Sound Technicians monitor and adjust the sanctuary sound system during worship services, special congregational events (musicals, plays, etc.), and weddings. A stipend is provided for wedding services.

Computer/Projector Operators sit at the computer in the balcony to assist with the projection of slides during the worship services.

Chancel Guild assumes responsibility for the important function of weekly set-up of the paraments, altar linens, candles and sacramental elements for each service.

Nursery Care is provided by paid staff members and church volunteers for the members and guests who worship on Sunday mornings, as well as for other congregational events.

The Sanctuary Choir is responsible for leading the congregation in the liturgy and giving a musical proclamation of the Word at our 8:00 a.m. service from September through June. They also sing for other special services or events throughout the year.

The KOG Praise Team is responsible for leading worship at the 10:30 am service. Praise team rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m.

The Youth Band, affectionately known as “The Adams Family” rehearses on Sunday afternoons and leads worship 3-4 times per year.
